Lihui Zhang is an economist who specializes in policy relevant quantitative research on population health and well-being using large-scale micro-survey data. Starting in her PhD years, Zhang developed an interest in crime economics. Her research on crime has been published in both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed journals. An earlier version of her research entitled “Learning Violence Young” was featured in the Vancouver Sun in June 2008. In addition to her continuing interest in crime economics, Zhang’s research focus also includes several other policy-relevant areas on population health and well-being, for example, intergenerational mobility and inequality. She teaches JSGS 805 Economics for Public Policy Analysis, JSGS 802 Public Finance and JSGS 837 Health Economics, and strives for teaching excellence. Besides research and teaching, Zhang is also actively involved in many other school activities, including serving on PhD committees, sitting on the Editorial Board for the Western Policy Analyst, leading the 2011-2012 poster competition, facilitating executive policy workshops, etc. She has also started to build a close working relationship with government ministries, for example, justice, health and social services.
