The Crown in Canada:
A Diamond Jubilee Assessment
October 26 – 28, 2012 / Government House, Regina, SK
About
Marking the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, this academic conference will examine the institution of the Crown in Canada at a historic juncture. After a long period of benign neglect, scholarly and public attention to the monarchy has considerably revived in the 21st century. The longevity and popularity of the present Sovereign are factors in this revival. So is a renewed interest in the constitutional and symbolic roles of the governor general and lieutenant governors in the Canadian system of governance. The present federal government, unlike its predecessors of the past five decades, is actively promoting the Crown. At this timely conference, leading scholars and policy specialists from across Canada will examine the constitutional monarchy in Canada from a variety of viewpoints.
