Governing in the 21st Century is challenging. Daunting challenges include a dynamic new world order, strained immigration and trade challenges, and challenges to liberal democratic institutions. Achieving Sustainable Development Goals and addressing climate change are only two of many important challenges facing government. However in this time, perhaps even more so than ever, making decisions in the face of uncertainty is necessary to address these challenges. This short presentation and discussion explores a framework for uncertainty and decision making in the context of complex problems and attempts to answer the question: How can complex wicked policy problems be addressed in the face of uncertainty?
About CSIP:
The Centre for the Study of Science and Innovation Policy (CSIP) invites all students, faculty and researchers interested in the study of science, technology and innovation policy to participate in a bi-weekly research forum. Each forum involves a quick roundtable of introductions, a review of topical policy issues, one or more brief research reports and general discussion about research strategies and methods that are being or could be used to examine various angles of the policy system. You can simply drop in and listen or offer to present some of your findings.
