Harold MacKay is an arbitrator and lawyer, governance advisor and public policy contributor.
Mr. MacKay has extensive corporate governance experience. In the public sector he was the lead director of the Bank of Canada and the board chair of the Business Development Bank of Canada. He has served as a director of several listed Canadian and US public companies including The Toronto Dominion Bank, The Mosaic Company and Domtar Inc. He is a director of the Capital Markets Authority Implementation Organization. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
He is the author of a report on Saskatchewan post-secondary education. He was the founding co-chair of Saskatchewan's Provincial Action Committee on the Economy. He also chaired the Task Force on the Future of the Canadian Financial Services Sector, served as the Clifford Clark Visiting Economist in the Department of Finance of Canada, and was the vice-chair of the Wise Persons' Committee on securities regulation.
Mr. MacKay is actively involved in alternative dispute resolution processes, including both mediation and arbitration. He is a member of the Western Canada Commercial Arbitration Society. Mr. MacKay's legal practice concentrated on aspects of business law in the industrial and resource sectors, including corporate finance.
He is an Officer of the Order in Canada, and is a recipient of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Peter Lougheed Award for Leadership in Public Policy. In 2002, the University of Regina also awarded him a honourary degree of doctors of laws.
Harold holds a BA (economics and political science) from the University of Saskatchewan and an LLB from Dalhousie University.
