Gardeners vs. Designers: Understanding the great fault line in Canadian politics

Video Conference

Moderated by JSGS Faculty Lecturer, Martin Boucher, this presentation features Brian Lee Crowley, Managing Director of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute.

Brian Lee Crowley, one of Canada’s most original political thinkers, asks the question , “What makes Canada great?” His answer is that we are a society that was designed by no one but has grown out of the experience, values, beliefs and behaviours of generations of Canadians putting forth their best efforts to live their best life. As a result Canada is not a problem to be fixed, but a rich inheritance to be enjoyed. Unfortunately the progressive mindset sees nothing but shame and vice in the past from which we have received this inheritance. It is all to be swept away in favour of designed programs (child care, pharmacare, guaranteed income, a green economy, etc.) which are a thinly disguised effort to impose unjustified progressive prejudices on people who do not share them.
