Saskatchewan's Municipal Elections: Why You Should Care

Video Conference

This lecture is being delivered via Zoom. Please register in advance to receive the link.

Municipal Elections are often overshadowed by provincial and federal elections. While municipalities may be considered subservient to senior levels of government, they have a great deal of influence and impact on the daily lives of citizens. Low voter turnout is a perennial problem—but is it because things are going well or because citizens literally think “you can’t fight city hall”? Is 2020 is going to be different? The municipal sector faces enormous challenges—financial pressures, the environment, the economy and a range of social issues from opioid abuse to homelessness dominate the landscape. Join us as our panel discusses the 2020 Saskatchewan Municipal elections and the issues you need to know about before you head to the polls.

Moderated by JSGS Executive-in-Residence, Keith Comstock, this panel includes:

  • Malcolm Eaton, former Mayor of Humboldt
  • Deb Higgins, Former MLA for Moose Jaw Wakamow, and former Mayor of Moose Jaw
  • Mike O'Donnell, Councillor, Regina City Council
  • Tiffany Paulsen, Laywer and former Saskatoon City Councillor
