CSIP Research Forum ~ Cannabis legalization in Saskatchewan: Up in smoke?

Video Conference

Weeding through the policy impacts of cannabis legalization in Saskatchewan.

PRESENTED BY: Jerome Konecsni, JSGS Executive-in-Residence

October 2019 marks the first anniversary of the legalization of the recreational sale of cannabis in Canada. What were the stated goals of legislation in Saskatchewan surrounding legalization and how is the province doing regard to the effectiveness of its policy framework in meeting those goals? Through examination of the policy framework this forum will explore the practical aspects of policy development in Saskatchewan and the difficulties that can arise in matching policy to legislation in the case of cannabis legalization. What lessons can we learn for the future of policy-making from the experience of cannabis policy in Saskatchewan?

The Centre for the Study of Science and Innovation Policy (CSIP) invites all students, faculty and researchers interested in the study of science, technology and innovation policy to participate in a bi-weekly research forum. Each forum involves a quick roundtable of introductions, a review of topical policy issues, one or more brief research reports and general discussion about research strategies and methods that are being or could be used to examine various angles of the policy system. You can simply drop in and listen or offer to present some of your findings.
