Seniors’ Care in an Era of COVID-19

Video Conference

This event is part of the JSGS COVID-19 Series: From Crisis to Recovery.

Canada’s model of care for the frail and elderly needs fundamental change. The signs of change were evident prior to this pandemic, and the impact of COVID-19 has been profound, with nursing home residents representing over 80% of COVID-19 related deaths in Canada. Pre-existing issues of social isolation, shared rooms, shared washrooms, weak infection control practices, low levels of staffing, poor quality of care and poor quality of life have been exacerbated by the pandemic.

Join us as our panelists discuss whether there is a better way to approach seniors’ care in Canada, and whether there are ways to modernize this failing system to ensure improvements to health, safety and quality of life.

Moderated by JSGS Executive-in-Residence Dan Florizone, this panel includes:

  • Michael Nicin, Executive Director, National Institute on Ageing
  • Dr. Samir K. Sinha, Director of Geriatrics, Sinai Health System and the University Health Network
