March 26, 2019
Round Table - 9:30am - 10:25am
Fireside Chat - 10:40 am - 11:25 am
Convocation Hall, University of Saskatchewan
Round Table: Specific disciplines have been key in developing and motivating scientific exploration over the past 350 years, but the most pressing 21st challenges transcend those boundaries. While individual disciplines have pursued innovations, this session will explore how we can work more holistically and effectively across the academy and beyond to address what we often regard as ‘wicked problems” linked to matters like the environment, health and food security.
Fireside Chat: After a brief break, the group will reconvene to have a Q & A session and chat with STEM scientists, researchers, students/trainees, particularly from underrepresented groups such as women, Indigenous communities, etc. to discuss the challenges and opportunities of career pathways like Dr. Bondar’s that transcend boundaries – i.e. what obstacles, challenges, successes, surprises etc. did she (and others) encounter along the way? Did they have role models? Did they ever feel isolated or want to quit and if so, what made them persevere? What sparked their initial interest and enduring commitment in science?
Please register if you are interested in attending one or both of these events.
