CSIP Research Forum ~ Radiation, Climate, and Becoming Aware: How open forms of public engagement can address binary limitations in a polarized world

University of Regina University of Saskatchewan

The Centre for the Study of Science and Innovation Policy (CSIP) invites all students, faculty and researchers interested in the study of science, technology and innovation policy to participate in a bi-weekly research forum.

PRESENTED BY: Larissa Shasko, JSGS Master of Public Policy candidate and former Leader of the Green Party of Saskatchewan (2009-2011)

What can a review of the literature on risk perceptions of radiation reveal about policy division on climate change Both quantitative and qualitative methods have been used to measure risk perceptions of nuclear energy, but in both cases, an overly binary approach (for or against, yes or no) can worsen divisions, lead to analytical errors, and make it more difficult for policy decisions to be made.

This interactive presentation will draw on the topics of ‘radiation’ and ‘climate’ to explore innovative approaches to public engagement that are based on deepening understanding rather than reinforcing division.
