About
Dr. Smith is a professor of history at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) with extensive experience in academic leadership and community engagement. Since joining the Department of History at the USask College of Arts and Science in 1994, she has provided strategic academic leadership as interim and acting associate dean in the USask College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and has helped shape institutional priorities with her service on numerous university, college, and departmental committees.
A dedicated educator and leader, Dr. Smith has advanced graduate education through innovative policy development, supervision, and impactful mentorship.
Her research focuses on US foreign policy in the Asia Pacific region, with a key interest in the Cold War era. She is the author of Domination and Resistance: The United States and the Marshall Islands during the Cold War (University of Hawaii Press, 2016). Her current research is a study of the relationship between Nuclear Weapons Proliferation, the Nation State, and the Environment.
Beyond academia, Dr. Smith has made lasting contributions in the community and to the city of Saskatoon through volunteer roles with community outreach organization, OUTSaskatoon. In recognition of her decade-long commitment to volunteerism and leadership, Dr. Smith received the 2022 RBC KnockOUT Award from OUTSaskatoon for her remarkable work in the community.
