About
Dr. Smith is a professor of history at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) with extensive experience in academic leadership and community engagement. She holds a PhD in history from the University of Toronto and brings considerable leadership experience from previous roles as Interim and Acting Associate Dean in the USask College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, as well as her service on numerous university, college, and departmental committees.
Committed to academic excellence and student success, Dr. Smith has advanced graduate education through innovative policy development, supervision, and impactful leadership.
A respected scholar of American foreign policy and Cold War history, Dr. Smith has published widely on nuclear weapons testing and its global impact, including her book Domination and Resistance: The United States and the Marshall Islands during the Cold War (University of Hawaii Press, 2016). Her current research project is a study of the relationship between Nuclear Weapons Proliferation, the Nation State, and the Environment.
Beyond academia, Dr. Smith has made lasting contributions in the community and to the city of Saskatoon through her volunteer roles with the community outreach organization, OUTSaskatoon. In recognition of her decade-long commitment to volunteerism and leadership, Dr. Smith received the 2022 RBC KnockOUT Award from OUTSaskatoon for her remarkable work in the community.
