Measuring Truth and Reconciliation Through Treaty Implementation

University of Regina University of Saskatchewan

The Johnson Shoyama Graduate School is pleased to welcome Rhett Sangster, Director of Reconciliation and Community Partnerships, Office of the Treaty Commissioner to campus.

The Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC) has been working since 2014 to build a common vision for successful truth and reconciliation, gathering the voices of First Nations, Métis and non-Indigenous citizens of Saskatchewan. At the same time, they have been using their stature as a neutral body to create Reconciliation Circles across the province, bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders in 10 regions to build trust, relationships and explore joint action. In September 2019 the OTC released a Vision for Truth and Reconciliation through Treaty Implementation as well as a telephone survey capturing the current attitudes of Saskatchewan residents. They are currently working to build a framework for measuring success on truth and reconciliation.
