WEBINAR ~ CSIP Research Forum ~ Canada Will Get the Algorithmic Governance It Deserves: Artificial Intelligence in Canadian Public Administration

Video Conference

The Centre for the Study of Science and Innovation Policy (CSIP) invites all students, faculty and researchers interested in the study of science, technology and innovation policy to participate in a bi-weekly research forum held online via Zoom.

PRESENTED BY: Justin Longo, JSGS Assistant Professor

Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology offer important opportunities for improving society and governance, from driverless vehicles to decision making by algorithm and machine learning. But AI also raises a number of troubling implications including hidden biases and job displacement. In this talk, Justin will review recent advances in AI using examples of how the technology is being adopted in the private sector and in government. Each of these cases illustrates how we are building our future by making seemingly small but important choices that challenge us to balance the benefits that AI offers with the costs that its adoption imposes.
