Presented by Tim Stone, CBE, Chairman, Nuclear Industry Association
Energy systems across the world are changing at a pace and scale that few people alive today have seen before let alone made happen. Our energy systems were designed in and for an era when the mechanics of power – electrical, financial, and political – operated under more stable and predictable frameworks. We risk being prisoners of the past while designing the energy future. This lecture discusses the consequences of continuity, inertia, and change for nuclear power.
They keynote address will be followed by a panel response from Saskatchewan experts.
About the speaker:
Tim Stone has built an extraordinary international career spanning science, global finance, and energy policy. After working as a banker in New York and London on major infrastructure projects, he spent nearly two decades advising governments, investors, and companies worldwide on energy strategy — with particular expertise in nuclear power.
He served 15 years as the longest-serving board member of the European Investment Bank, representing the UK government. His project work includes advising on the UK’s only high-speed rail line, delivered on time and on budget, and the first nuclear power project in Abu Dhabi, also completed to schedule.
He has advised five UK Secretaries of State across successive governments, led the creation of Great British Nuclear following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and currently supports Ukraine’s nuclear sector. A recipient of the Hinton Prize and a Commander of the British Empire, he is an honorary professor at University College London.
